Meet Dr. Brian Shipton
Dr. Brian Shipton believes dentistry should be practical, personalized, and centered on the individual patient needs. He is passionate about helping patients find solutions that fit their goals, combining careful planning and exceptional attention to detail with genuine compassion for every person in his chair.
Dr. Shipton has a special interest in the surgical and functional side of dentistry, from in-office surgical procedures to therapeutic botox to relieve symptoms related to clenching, grinding, headaches, and TMJ disorders. He also has a passion for treating children, understanding that a young patient’s first experiences at the dentist can shape how they view dental care for years to come.
Known for his calm approach and thoughtful communication, Dr. Shipton takes the time to understand each patient’s concerns and build treatment plans that are realistic, aesthetic, and long-lasting. He believes patients deserve to feel informed and confident in their care, whether they’re maintaining their oral health or addressing more complex needs.
Outside the office, Dr. Shipton enjoys staying active, traveling, reading, and playing video games, along with cheering on the Wolverines and any Detroit team. Most of all, he loves spending time with his wife, Dr. Linda, and their two dogs, Gus and Ham.
Education and Advanced Training
Dr. Shipton grew up in metro Detroit before falling in love with West Michigan while attending Grand Valley State University. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2014.
Following dental school, Dr. Shipton returned to Grand Rapids, where he spent more than a decade practicing public health dentistry, caring for patients who faced some of the greatest barriers to care and often had the most complex needs. These experiences shaped his approach to dentistry and strengthened his commitment to compassionate, high-quality treatment for every patient.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Shipton served as clinical faculty for the University of Michigan’s dental outreach program, mentoring dental students and helping prepare the next generation of providers to deliver thoughtful, patient-centered care. He’s had extensive training from the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE) for the administration of botox both therapeutically and esthetically.
